I found one of these on Etsy for $160, and decided to make it myself for around $26. I was happy with how it turned out.
I bought a simple white photo frame/shadow box at Target. The inside was lined with black felt, which I kept as it was (you can cover with different fabric or paper to go with your own wedding colors.) To make the hearts, I purchased a heart paper cuter from Martha Stewart’s collection, and cut out around 80 hearts with craft paper.
After cutting out the hearts, I folded each one in half down the middle. I lined each of the hearts up, and glued each one to the felt using fabric glue. To create the 3-D look, I glued either the left side, the right side, or the middle of the heart to the felt.
For the bride and groom’s heart, I opted for white craft paper to distinguish it from the other guests’.
There’s not a lot of room on each heart, which is why I liked this idea as a wedding guest sign in. I wanted to have a memento of our guests’ signatures, but I’m not a big fan of when guests write a novel in the sign in book. This left just enough room for names, and maybe a “congrats” or a “we love you.”
During the reception, we added a sign next to the frame that said “Write your name on a heart, to wish the couple a happy start.”
At the end of the reception, I put it back into the frame, and eventually hung it on our Photo Wall at home.
Very easy to DIY and a unique wedding guest sign in.
